Yan'an Tourist Service Center

Yan'an Tourist Service Center is an urban renewal project located in the core area of Yan'an old city, Shaanxi Province, China. The design responds to a damaged ecological environment and limited public facilities. The core concept is the integration of site memories into the design. The natural ecology was restored and an open urban park was created to link the city with the landscape. The facades are made of local beige sandstone, laid seamlessly by local craftsmen using traditional techniques. The design integrates the building with the mountain.

Yan'an Tourist Service Center Urban Renovation by Hongjun Tang was recognized as a creative example of architectural design by the A' Design Awards. Yan'an Tourist Service Center Urban Renovation earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Urban Planning and Urban Design in 2024. The A' City Planning and Urban Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design accolade which rewards exceptional design of masterplans, zoning proposals, infrastructure designs, landscape blueprints, public space concepts, urban renewal projects, transit oriented developments, sustainable city designs and more.
